Here comes summer. It’s that time of the year that is hot and humid. You will need to drink a lot of water and drinks because let’s face you will be sweating especially if you are outdoors.

  There’s nothing as good as chilling by the pool, on your front porch or on the beach with an ice-cold drink in your hand on a scorching summer day. Although soft drinks and cocktails are delicious, they are usually high in calories and sugar.

    I have listed ten summer drinks you can indulge in this season that are just as delicious without the extra calories. Let’s dive in.

  • Pineapple Lemonade Spritzer.

     This delicious drink is packed with nutrients and will keep you hydrated in the scorching heat. It makes an ideal cool-off drink.

    Ingredients.

1. Two tablespoons of honey

2. 1 large pineapple

3. Three lemons

4. Ice water

5. One-litre bottle of seltzer water

6. Lemon wedges

     Directions.

• Peel the pineapple and put it in a blender. Add the honey and water. Run until smooth.

• Pour water into a container. Add the lime juice, and pineapple and stir. Chill until very cold.

• Pour ½ cup of the pineapple mixture into six tall glasses. Fill with ice and add ½ up of seltzer water to fill the glass.

• Spike s lemon wedge on the rim of each glass and serve.

• Orange Mango Juice.

  Mango is a delicious tropical fruit. It is rich in vitamins A and C.

  This summer drink will quench your thirst and helps you reach your nutritional needs.

Ingredients.

1. Three large semi-ripe mangoes.

2. Three oranges

3. Three tablespoons of honey

4. One cup of water.

     Directions.

• Wash the mangoes and use a sharp paring knife to slice them lengthwise, around the stone. 

• Use the slice mark as a starting point to peel away the skin from the mangoes.

• Then dice the mango and a cup of water and put them in a blender. Run it for 2 minutes.

• Cut the oranges and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Add the orange juice and honey into the blender and run for 1 minute.

• Pour the mango juice into glasses and fill it with ice and serve immediately.

• Guava Apple Drink.

   This fruity drink is bursting with flavour and is also rich in nutrients. 

  It’s an excellent drink for any summer party or when you are relaxing on the beach when the weather is scorching

  It tastes better and it’s healthier than soft drinks and you don’t have to worry about eating sugar and preservatives in this too.

Ingredients

1. Six ripe pink guavas

2. 1 cup of water

3. One green apple

4. Two cups of ice-cubes

5. Mint leaves (optional)

Directions.

• Cut up the guavas and apples. Run the fruits in a grinder for 1-2 minutes.

• Chill till very cold. Pour guava drink into drinking glasses and fill with ice cubes.

• Garnish with mint leaves and serve.

Blueberry Cocktail.

     Watching your waistline? if so, blueberries are better for you!

   They are sweet, high in potassium and vitamin C / potassium and low in calories which is a win-win situation for you.

  If you want to stay hydrated in summer, without worrying about drinking high-calorie drinks and cocktails. 

      You will love this one.

Ingredients.

1. Two cups of fresh blueberries.

2. Three ripe kiwi fruits.

3. ¼ tablespoon orange peel.

4. Two tablespoons of coconut milk.

5. 2 cups of ice cubes.

   Directions.

• Rinse blueberries and remove them from the stem. Set them in a sieve to drain and dry.

• Peel the kiwi and puree in a blender for one minute. Add the orange and coconut milk.

• Put the blueberries in wine glasses and drizzle kiwi fruit cream over them. Add the ice cubes and serve.

Iced Hibiscus Tea.

     I love this drink because it’s so sweet and keeps me hydrated in the heat and trims all summer.

    It’s also easy to make. That makes it a good choice for summer outdoor parties like Thanksgiving barbecue parties etc.

Ingredients.

1. Three cups of dry hibiscus leaves.

2. Two chunks of fresh ginger.

3. One large pineapple

4. ½ cup of honey

5. 2 cups of ice cubes

6. One grapefruit

7. Five cups of water.

Directions.

• Rinse hibiscus leaves under cold running water. Set aside.

• Wash the pineapple under cold running water thoroughly.

• Peel the pineapple and put the pineapple back and hibiscus leaves in a pot.

• Add the water to the pot and boil it for forty minutes. Set aside to cool.

• Strain the hibiscus tea through a sieve

• Put the pineapple and honey in a blender and run for 1 minute or until smooth. 

• Cut the grapefruit in half and squeeze out the juice. Add the grapefruit and pineapple juice to the hibiscus tea.

• Refrigerate for one hour. Put ice cubes in glasses and pour in hibiscus tea. Serve chilled.

Courant Mocktail.

   This red Mocktail is delicious. You won’t feel guilty drinking it because it’s fruit, fresh and non-alcoholic.

    It’s the perfect friend, fresh and non-alcoholic to spend your summer days in or outdoors.

    Ingredients.

1. 2.5 kg of red currants

2. ½ oz lime juice.

3. Lime wedges

4. One litre of water.

  Directions.

• Wash red currants and place them in a pot. Press them slightly.

• Pour water into the pot and boil for 10 minutes. Let it cool, and filter the currants through a sieve.

• Combine the currant juice with the lime juice.

• Pour the juice into tall glass cups filled with ice. Stir and garnish with lime wedges.

Kiwi Banana Frappe.

   If you have a sweet tooth, this is the drink for you.

  This drink will keep you hydrated on those sweltering summer afternoons, but it will help control your sugar cravings because it’s so sweet. 

  You will love it.

Ingredients.

1. Six Kiwi fruit, peeled and coarsely chopped.

2. ½ cup of ice cubes

3. One ripe banana

4. One tablespoon of honey

5. One litre of water.

Directions.

• Combine all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

• Pour into glasses and serve chilled.

Cashew Pineapple Drink.

   I love this one. Many of you are familiar with cashew nuts. However, the fruit is also very delicious.

   Be careful with the juice. Make sure you drink it with a straw. 

  If it spills on your clothes, it will leave a permanent stain on them.

Ingredients.

1. Four cashew fruits

2. One tablespoon of honey

3. 1 lime

4. A litre of water

5. ½ cup of ice cubes

Directions.

• Wash the cashews and cut the seeds from the top. Then cut the cashews into small pieces.

• Cut the lime and squeeze out the juice.

• Puree the cashews in a blender for two minutes. Pour through a sieve and set aside.

• Add the lemon juice and honey to it and stir. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.

• Pour the juice into glass cups filled with ice cubes. Stir and serve immediately.

Chocolate coconut milkshake.

       Who doesn’t love milkshakes? However, this one is better because it’s dairy-free.

      It’’s good if you dislike milk or are vegan. It is delicious. 

Note: you need a high-powered food processor or blender for this.

    Ingredients.

1. One mature coconut

2. Two cups of water

3. ¼ cup of chocolate chips

4. 2 teaspoon chocolate powder

5. Two tablespoons of honey

Directions.

• Break the coconut with a hammer and pry the coconut flesh from the shell. Cut them into small pieces.

• Place the coconut and water into a blender. Blend until smooth. Strain through or cloth.

• Pour the coconut milk back into the blender. Add the honey and chocolate powder. Blend for a minute

• Refrigerate for forty minutes. Pour into glass cups and sprinkle chocolate chips on them. Serve immediately.

• Strawberry Limeade.

Freshly squeezed limes combined with the sweetness of strawberries make the ideal summer drink. You have to try it.

Ingredients.

1. Two tablespoons of honey.

2. 8-10 limes

3. 1lb strawberries, hulled and halved

4. 5 cups of water

5. Two cups of ice-cubes

      Directions.

• Pure strawberries in a blender until completely smooth. Sieve the juice through a strainer.

• Cut the limes and squeeze out the juice.

• In a large jar, combine five honey, lime juice, strawberries and remaining water.

• Put the ice cubes in glass jars and add in the strawberry Limeade.

• Grapefruit Limeade.

     There is nothing as refreshing as this summer drink.

    Ingredients.

1. 4 grapefruits

2. Ten limes, freshly squeezed

3. Ginger, finely grated

4. Four cups of water

5. Two cups of ice-cubes

    Directions.

• Peel the grapefruits and remove the seeds and pith.

• Put them and one cup of water in a blender and process until smooth.

• Add the freshly squeezed lime juice and set it aside.

• Pour the remaining water into a pot. Add the ginger and boil it for ten minutes, then strain. Leave to cool

• Combine the ginger and grapefruit juice with honey and pour into ice-filled glasses and serve immediately.

Bubbly Cosmo 

    Here is another delicious Mocktail you can enjoy that is free of alcohol and sugar.

   It’s low in calories so you don’t have to worry about an expanding waistline when drinking this summer beverage.

  Ingredients.

1. Ice

2. Two ounces of pomegranate

3. One-ounce fresh lime juice

4. 5 ounces of water

5. Lime wedges

        Directions 

• Cut pomegranates and place the seeds in a blender. Add water and blend until smooth.

• Strain through a fine mesh strain. Add the lime juice to the pomegranate juice.

• Pour ice into a shaker. Add the juice. Shake to combine and pour into a martini glass. Run lime over the outside of the martini glass and serve.
